Josh Childress is leaving the Atlanta Hawks for Greek club Olympiakos, reversing the course of the many international stars who have signed with the NBA. Heading overseas allows Childress to make more money than he could have as a restricted free agent in the United States. The Hawks had the right to match an offer from another NBA team, but not from an international club.


James shoots baskets, sits out scrimmage (AP)
Nursing a mild right ankle sprain, U.S. forward LeBron James shot baskets on the sidelines but was held out of a scrimmage on Wednesday. "He's responding very well to treatment," team spokesman Craig Miller said during the closed training session at Valley High School, where the Americans are preparing for the Beijing Olympics.


Clippers trade Knight to Jazz for Hart (AP)
Jason Hart is returning to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers acquired the 30-year-old local product from the Utah Jazz on Wednesday in exchange for Brevin Knight in a swap of point guards. Trail Blazers sign G Batum (AP)
The Portland Trail Blazers signed French guard-forward Nicolas Batum on Wednesday. The 6-foot-8 19-year-old was the 25th overall pick in the draft by Houston, which traded his rights to Portland for picks Darrell Arthur (27th overall) and Joey Dorsey (33rd overall). Batum played the past three seasons for MSB Le Mans of the French ProA League.

Warriors acquire G Williams from Nets (AP)
The Golden State Warriors acquired Marcus Williams from the New Jersey Nets on Tuesday, filling their need for a backup point guard. The Warriors, who lost Baron Davis to the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency, traded a conditional first-round draft pick to the Nets for Williams, a first-round pick in 2006.


Spurs re-sign F Kurt Thomas (AP)
The San Antonio Spurs re-signed Kurt Thomas on Tuesday, getting the veteran forward under contract after trading for him in February.
