Travelers Ready to Hit The Road for Long Weekend
Patricia Nazario: Top destinations for Southern Californians this July Fourth holiday include San Diego, Las Vegas and San Francisco. Some travelers are still forking over the money to fly, despite high gas prices and the weak economy. KPCC's Patricia Nazario stopped by the Van Nuys Fly Away airport bus to talk with a few of them.

Big Sur Wildfire Threatens Beach Boy's Property
Steve Julian: The fire near Big Sur has forced nearly everyone out of town. The wildfire has charred more than 50,000 acres and jumped a fire line. One person who's staying put for now is Mary Ann Jardine. Her husband, Al, you might know, is a member of the Beach Boys. KPCC's Steve Julian spoke to Mary Ann, just as Al was driving away.

Health Care Pros Concerned About Looming Geriatrician Shortage
Susan Valot: In the next couple of decades, California's population of those 65 and older is expected to double to nearly 8 million. But the state may not have the enough doctors skilled at care for an aging population. KPCC's Susan Valot reports on the shortage.

Health Care Workers, Patients Protest Program Cuts
Patricia Nazario: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has said every state program will have to sacrifice a little to close California's $16 billion deficit. His plan includes reducing benefits to the disabled and the people who care for them. KPCC's Patricia Nazario visited a writer with advanced Lou Gehrig's disease to ask what the proposed budget cuts may mean for him.
