Green Affordable Housing

It's not just environmentalists concerned with carbon footprints who want to go 'green' these days - many homeowners interested in tightening the purse strings are also exploring the benefits of green construction. But building in ways that are easier on the environment can require extra money up front. So when the DC City Council passed the Green Building Act of 2006 and required all affordable housing projects to meet green standards, non-profit developers had to figure out how to do it within a tight budget. A year after doors opened on the city's first green affordable housing complex, proponents say the benefits go well beyond the bottom line. Stephanie Kaye visits Galen Terrace in Southeast DC.

Summer of Trash

Teenagers may have a reputation for keeping messy rooms, but one group of teens in DC has taken on the task of cleaning up the entire city in just 10 weeks. Kavitha Cardoza met some of these young people at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Webster Street. And she found that trash talks - it's speaking to area youth about responsibility, work ethic and pride in their communities... one scrap of litter at a time.

Youth Voices - Fashion Forward

Teenagers can be picky when it comes to what they wear. And across the country, more high schools are implementing rules that require students to wear uniforms. Youth Voices reporter Jeanna Colbert-Watkins examines the growing trend and finds out why many teens are not too happy about it.

Our Youth Voices series is produced by Deborah Bolling.

Studio Session with Pam Parker

DC singer Pam Parker has a busy calendar this summer. The Jazz vocalist is playing Friday, July 18th and Saturday, July 19th at Arlington's Signature Theatre... and then has a Blues Alley date in Georgetown on August 5th. Her latest CD, Bread and Roses, captures the sound of her live performances - it was recorded exclusively in venues around the DC region. Pam Parker joins us with her band for an in-studio session.

Associated, Inc.

'Association.' The dictionary says it means 'companionship' or 'an organization of people with a common purpose.' But writer Jessica Piscatelli sees a more sinister edge.
